Is It Time to Quit Your Job? 5 signs to watch for
Our intuition often knows the answer before we do, but in our busy lives, it's easy to ignore that quiet voice in our heads.
When you struggle with the decision to quit your job, your mind is overwhelmed with doubts: “It’s too scary,” “How will I earn money?” “It’s hard to find a job,” “Now isn’t the best time,” “It can’t be that bad,” and so on.
You probably don’t give up easily. However, there are times when, for the sake of our well-being, mental health, and happiness, we need to let go and embrace new adventures. Here are some alarming signs that it might be time to seriously consider quitting your job:
Your body is sending you strong signals: Headaches, shoulder pain, Sunday night stomach aches, blurred vision, frequent colds—these are your body’s way of telling you something needs to change.
The thought of going to work makes you sick: Sometimes, discussing these feelings with a coach can help, but regardless, trust your body. It’s signaling that something isn’t right.
High turnover in employees: This is always a red flag. If people are constantly leaving, there’s likely a deeper issue at play that can negatively impact your mental health over time.
Toxic Leadership: Life is too short to work for someone who makes your life miserable. Toxic leadership can drain your energy and wear down your mental resilience. Know which battles are worth fighting and when it’s time to stand up for yourself or walk away.
You’ve lost motivation and passion: When you’ve ‘hit the ceiling’ and there’s no opportunity to move to a different department or role, it can lead to a sense of stagnation, which is detrimental to your mental well-being. This could be a sign it’s time for a change.
If you’re experiencing any of these signs, you’re probably emotionally exhausted from the stress, frustration, and unhappiness. But know this: a session with a coach like me can provide the relief and clarity you need to make the right decision.
